Management change at Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica

Dr Peter Lechner is the new CEO at Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica. As planned, he takes over from Christoph Müller, who moves to the company's supervisory board as chairman. “Peter Lechner has many years of experience in the field of flexible packaging. He will continue on the positive path of Flexotecnica and achieve our ambitious goals,” says Christoph Müller, Flexotecnica supervisory board chairman and member of the executive board at Koenig & Bauer.

At Labelexpo Americas 2018, GEW will showcase its comprehensive range of UV curing systems comprising mercury arc, LED and hybrid systems. Bosch launches website for cartoning and case packing

The new website is a showcase for Bosch’s cartoning and case packaging solutions. The objective was to create a website with a user-friendly design and easy navigation, in order to get a quick portfolio overview and find a machine for every need. The team, consisting of students, trainees and employees of Optima, designed a product separator with feeding system. 124 participants from eight countries participated in the competition themed "Make, create & have fun".

HERMA returns containers for reconditioning

In 2017, self-adhesive materials expert HERMA collected a total of 1,058 so-called Intermediate Bulk Containers, which are used for transport and storage of bulk liquid and granulated substances, to undergo eco-friendly reconditioning. Compared with the use of newly produced containers, this has saved 44.4 tons of steel, 16.9 tons of plastic, and 105.8 tons of CO2 emissions. “By participating in the reconditioning program, we do not only aim at preserving the environment, but also at counteracting current resource shortages to some extent”, explains Dr. Thomas Baumgärtner, HERMA managing director and head of the Self-adhesive Materials Division.

Sophisticated substrates lead the charge in label sector growth

Sophisticated label substrates have experienced exponential growth due to demand for high-end applications according FINAT’s latest findings. Since 2010 demand for PP-based materials has grown 78%, direct thermal papers are up 51% and white coated papers enjoyed a 24% increase. The figures show that while paper based materials continue to dominate label materials demand, there has been a shift from basic primary and VIP labels towards more sophisticated, high-end applications.

Smurfit Kappa Group is pleased to announce that it has completed the acquisition of Reparenco, a paper and recycling business in the Netherlands. The acquisition represents a transaction multiple, pre-synergies, of 6.4x Reparenco's 2018 expected full year EBITDA of ?72million. Reparenco's strong strategic fit with SKG's existing European businesses is expected to deliver synergies of in excess of ?30 million.
