HERMA extends its seawater-resistant product range

HERMA is offering new options to make label printing seawater-resistant in accordance with the strict British Standard BS5609 Section 3. Following extensive tests, the self-adhesive materials expert has received the approval for specific flexo printing inks and a commercially available thermal transfer printer. In both cases, this applies to the label materials HERMA PP white extra topcoat (grade 880) and HERMA PE white (grade 850). For printers and label users, this means better safety right from the start and less effort, since they no longer need to apply for their own certifications. Recently, HERMA had introduced materials that allow certain inkjet inks and laser toners to fulfill the requirements of BS5609 Section 3.

UPM Raflatac partners with SGA and MCC in Italy to create sample book of wine

UPM Raflatac is launching a new visual sample book to showcase its premium label materials for wine, spirits, and craft beverages. Designed in collaboration with a team from SGA Corporate & Packaging Design led by chief designer Giacomo Bersanetti, the book has been printed by leading Italian printing company Multi-Color Corporation (MCC). The book was inspired by the details and perspectives of the surfaces of the natural world, such as barks, petals, shells, and feathers.

Expansion at Mondi Simet plant paves the way for heavy-duty corrugated packaging in Poland

In January 2017, international packaging and paper producer Mondi announced the expansion of its heavy-duty corrugated capabilities at the Mondi Simet plant near Poznań, Poland. The technological upgrade included the installation of a state-of-the-art 2.8 metre corrugator with three single facers. The in-house production of double wall board is fully productive, and the production of heavy-duty triple wall board is ramping up according to plan with an expected production start in the first quarter of 2018. The market is following the enhancement of Mondi’s heavy-duty portfolio in Poland with keen interest, with customers in the automotive, chemical and furniture sectors already familiar with the benefits offered by Mondi’s innovative heavy-duty solutions.

Heidelberg celebrates the world premiere of the Primefire 106 with packaging printers from all over Europe

More than 70 customers from 40 packaging manufacturers from all over Europe took advantage of an opportunity at the beginning of November for an in-depth visit to the packaging printing company MPS-WestRock in Obersulm. Part of the global WestRock packaging group based in Atlanta (USA), it is the first commercial user of Heidelberg’s new digital flagship, the Primefire 106 for the 70x100 cm format. MPS-WestRock produces high-end packaging for consumer goods products in the luxury segment, and the technical requirements for the machines used for this are correspondingly high. These prerequisites offer Heidelberg the perfect platform to be able to extensively test and enhance the new machine in real-life operation.

Barry-Wehmiller to enhance focus on flexible packaging and end-of-line integrated systems

Responding to rising demand for its innovative flexible packaging equipment as well as more complete integrated systems, Barry-Wehmiller is creating two new divisions dedicated to meeting these needs. On Jan. 1, the flexible packaging experts from Hayssen Flexible Systems and the bag converting and bag filling divisions of Thiele Technologies will come together to form a single team as BW Flexible Systems.
